Old Forge Oktoberfest

October is the best month in the New York North Country for outrageous fall foliage, and Old Forge is the number one location for viewing. As the jewel in Herkimer County’s northern crown, Old Forge is the most accessible and most affordable Adirondack resort community. And with that Adirondack mystique comes the legendary countryside with its mountains, lakes, and endless wild forests, which explode with color every autumn.

So close, yet a world apart.

Old Forge is only a one hour drive from the New York State Thruway corridor through the Mohawk Valley. That short drive north takes travelers to another dimension… The Adirondack Park, protected as “Forever Wild” by the New York State constitution since 1893. That means wild colors every autumn.

October 2023 marks the return of OKTOBERFEST in Old Forge, after many years of slumber in the memories of local residents and visitors alike. Fall is always an active travel time in the Adirondacks, as towns such as Old Forge welcome touring “leaf peepers” in cars and trains.

This year, the Central Adirondack Association, a non-profit group which has been bringing festivals and events to the area since 1933, has mobilized to bring back the popular OktoberFest and to put even more color in October.

Nothing says Fall like “OktoberFest”

OktoberFest everywhere has one thing coursing through its veins… beverages! At OktoberFest 2023 guests can savor the finest craft beer from Fulton Chain Craft Brewery in Old Forge and Grow Brewery in Oneida. Both are known for exceptional brews which capture the essence of the Adirondack. Wine enthusiasts will find selections of OktoberFest wines from Montezuma Winery in the Finger Lakes Region. Montezuma also has a shop on Main Street in Old Forge. “Soft” beverages will be available, also.

Music by The Beer Fest Boys and performances by the Edelweiss Dance Club from Utica will keep the atmosphere even more festive throughout the day with authentic German tunes.

Old Forge OktoberFest will host a variety of family-friendly activities such as hayrides, face painting, and photo opportunities with scenic backdrops and traditional German props. A number of craft vendors will be showcasing their unique creations, and collectible beer steins will be available for purchase. The festival will conclude with a raffle drawing.
