Michelle CarlsonHeading for Herkimer? On your way to Albany and need to stop for a great meal? This is THE place to stop for excellent food which the chefs took the time to cook with all all their heart and soul. We just got off the Erie Canal trail and this restaurant or pub hit the spot. It’s all around good American food. The special menu changes monthly so there’s always something special to try. If you’re lucky enough to stop by this month in July—you can get Sam’s Summer Wrap. A delicious chicken wrap with candied pecans. We had an individual with Celiac in our party and Mackenzie went out of her way to adjust the Smashburger and salad to meet the gluten free needs of this person. Now—let me get started with the wings. We just traveled Western New York and it took traveling from Buffalo to Herkimer to find the VERY BEST WINGS AT ASTEROGA ALE HOUSE. We enjoyed the sweet potato and french fries. The Sunshine beer on tap is not to be missed! You can’t go wrong with anything on this menu as there are selections for everyone! We will need to make our return visit on a Saturday so we see our exceptional server Mackenzie😊 ASTEROGA ALE HOUSE in quaint old downtown Herkimer is not to be missed!

Isaac SeletzLooking for a perfect stop along your drive? Look no further, this place is cheffing top tier sammies at the local level. Must try the prime rib. Best au jus I’ve ever had. Chef clearly takes pride. Great friendly service. Dimly lit good eats pub vibe.

Pam “PJ” RogersWe stopped in for a quick pub style dinner after traveling to see our college daughter play softball nearby. This place did not disappoint. (Recently back from London where the food was fantastic, our expectations are higher than ever!) Maxine, busy tending bar and waiting on others, told us anywhere we wanted to sit, and was quick to bring menus. The service was excellent. The food was more than enough (we could have skipped the appetizer!)! They have 3 ciders on tap along with many choices of ale and brews. Excellent menu options for an ale house!

Mo WI ordered the buffalo chicken wrap with French fries, the fries are so good and the wrap was awesome. My date ordered a mushroom, Swiss, & bacon burger with fries and also said it was great. We will definitely be stopping in again.

Justin AckerWe drove out to Herkimer last night for our son’s travel basketball practice and needed a place to grab dinner and relax while we waited for him to finish. We were hoping to find something decent… and ended up finding a gem instead. Asteroga Ale House was exactly what we were looking for. The service was fantastic, the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable, and the portions were huge. I ordered the prime rib sandwich, and it was absolutely perfect. We also got the beef nachos, and when they brought them out, they basically covered the entire plate. They tasted just as good as they looked. This place checked every box for us. Great food, great service, and plenty of it. Safe to say we’ll definitely be coming back again… and probably bringing friends next time. Tip for anyone going: bring your appetite!
